Open, participative city: how design knowledge can support public services in the development of open, participative city environment
The main aim of this visual identity is to communicate the conference’s theme: Northern world mandate – Towards Open Participative Cities to form an identifiable visual look under the Cumulus’ visual umbrella and create an experience for the conference attendees.
The word mandate means to act in a certain way. Thus we wanted to incorporate values important to the Northern or Nordic countries. A tree, we feel represents this philosophy and values in a easily understood and simplified manner. It also has both a universal and local context. Trees symbolize life, growth, sustainability and the beginning of something new. Thus we opted for a visual identity that combines indigenous, Nordic trees with a minimalistic type treatment where textures and production materials are maximized through the juxtapositioning.
